What

The Social Gospel is our calling to have a communal faith. A personal faith is still important, but it is more important that we live in relation to each other as Christians.

Another thing to describe is our view of what it takes to live a Christian life. We believe that Jesus called us to come follow him. This is the most important aspect of being a Christian. This is not to discount the idea of "believe and you will be saved," but Jesus first called his disciples to follow him and then later asked what they believed. Also, it is too easy for people to say yes I believe. It takes something much more to live it out. I believe this something much more is what living as a Christian is.

Non-violence is another big part of our radical Christian lifestyle. We believe that Jesus called us to a new way of living. His death showed us a new way to live. Think about what Jesus purpose was here on earth. Was it only to die on the cross, or was it also to show us a new way to live?

Consumerism is another issue we are dealing with. We have some information on it under our Corporate-Media section. It is another of MLKs three big things to change.

The last issue is racism. We have encountered this at the Open Door. What can we do to change it? Realizing our privilege is a good first step. Making friends with people of other ethnic backgrounds is another.
