Magnolia

A story about peoples lives; rich, poor, young, and old. Confusing at first, but then it twists together a number of different story lines. Tom Cruise's character is a fun one that you will remember, and you just can't help but laugh at some of his lines. Aimee Mann also does a great job with this soundtrack, I had never heard any of her music before this movie and now she is one of my favorites.
I also remember the plague...

Run Lola Run

A fun movie. Many of the movies that we like are dramas about "real" life which are not always nice to watch, but this is a fun entertaining movie. It is German (with subtitles, but they are big, so even we can read them on our small TV). Lola must get money to save her boyfriend, and she does a lot of running to do it, hence the name. The same story is repeated a number of times with slight variations that show how our lives could be different if small things are changed. This is a good change from the typical Hollywood movie.

Dogma

This movie is not for all. In this movie Christ is a black man, God is a woman who likes to play ski-ball, and there is a 13th disciple (Chris Rock) who was left out of the "Big Book" due to racism. Some might find this movie sacrilegious, however, it is far from anti-religious. In fact it's quite the opposite, it deals with religion in a very honest way. It shows the hypocrisy of the Church and the spiritual journey of a woman. We would not recommend this to everyone. People who know the church should be able to see where it shows the truth. However, for some one not familiar with the church, it could be taken at face value and further the stereotype of the church and lead to incorrect ideas.

Fight Club

A movie about fighting the system in which we live. It has fighting in it, but it is not all about fighting as one might suspect from the name. A good commentary on the society we live in and the corporate corrupted world.

"In the world I see -- you're stalking elk through the damp canyon forests around the ruins of Rockefeller Center. You will wear leather clothes that last you the rest of your life. You will climb the wrist- thick kudzu vines that wrap the Sears Tower. You will see tiny figures pounding corn and laying-strips of venison on the empty car pool lane of the ruins of a superhighway."

"Our generation has had no Great Depression, no Great War. Our war is spiritual. Our depression is our lives."

"You are not your job. You are not how much you have in the bank. You are not the contents of your wallet. You are not your fucking Khakis. You are not a beautiful and unique snowflake. You are the all-singing, all-dancing crap of the world."

Dead Man Walking

A story about life and the commitment of a woman to a man condemned to die. Makes you rethink the death penalty issue (if the fact the US has probably killed an innocent man is not enough for you.
