Vietnam

Coming into Vietnam after our worst bus experience (30 hours, terrible road conditions, major tourist scam, annoying passengers) didn't give us the best frame of mind for establishing positive first impressions. However, spending quality time in Hanoi, Halong Bay, Sapa, the central coast, the fertile Dalat region, Ho Chi Minh city and the Mekong Delta left us with a deep appreciation for the country and its people.

America's involvement in the Vietnam War (or American War as they describe it in Vietnam) was a topic that surfaced in a number of places we visited and in many discussions we had with people. In this way, our experiences in Vietnam were more personal and had more history attached to them than in the other countries we visited.
