Nature CD

I am a sucker for those nature CDs that combine classical music and nature sounds: Pachebel's Canon in D with ocean sounds, Vivaldi's Four Seasons with forest noises - though true music lovers deem them an apology for real art, I like them and shamelessly listen to my collection of them at home. Imagine my delight then when I heard the stereo-like sound of monkeys as we biked through the lush green jungles of North Sumatra. When we got off our bikes to explore a roadside trail and try to find the source of the sounds, we soon saw the sources and were delighted to see the monkeys swinging from the high trees above. I couldn't press repeat or drink my tea and write in my journal as I listened, but it was so much better: it was real.
