Pretrip

Way back during their college semester in England (Spring 1997), Deb and her friend Sarah Rinsema decided to do more traveling together, someday, somewhere. This Southeast Asia bike trip is proof that college dreams can be actualized!

The four of us spent about a year doing the planning for our trip. We were each responsible for researching possible bike routes, cultural information and details about a specific country. Using Lonely Planet guides, Internet sites (Mr. Pumpy's site was a favorite!), and conversations with other travelers, our itinerary began to take shape.

Jon took the responsibility of learning more about bike repair and maintenance (during all those lonely nights when Deb was grading) and soon became a regular customer at our local Specialized bike shop - Cross Country Bike Shop. In fact, he became such a familiar face to them that when we approached Laura, the owner, about the possibility of sponsoring us, she willingly agreed.
